3 of the best Green Smoothie combos

6 November 2014 | Recipes

It only takes a quick gander at my Instagram feed to know that I’m a bit of a green smoothie fan. I’ve tried several different combos over the years. These three are my favourites:

Note: I always freeze my fruit. It gives a thicker texture and is a great way to make the most of fruit when it’s in season. It’s not a mandatory step however.

1. Island dreaming

● 1 cup almond milk
● 1 frozen banana
● 2 pieces of frozen pineapple
● juice of 1 lime
● ¼ avocado
● 2 cups greens (baby spinach, kale, silverbeet would all work)
● handful of mint leaves
● 1 tablespoon vanilla bean protein powder (optional)

Superfood boosts: spirulina, bee pollen, camu camu, hemp seeds.

2. Hydration station

● 1 cup coconut water
● half a green pear
● ½ lebanese cucumber
● 1 cup baby spinach
● 1/4 avocado
● handful of mint leaves

Superfood boosts: greens powder, bee pollen, mesquite powder, magnesium powder, chlorophyll.

3. Post-workout chocolate thickshake

● 1 cup almond milk (or milk of your choice)
● ½ cup coconut water
● 1/2 cup frozen berries
● ¼ avocado
● 1 tablespoon raw cacao powder
● 1 serve of vanilla protein powder
● 4 kale leaves, stalks removed

Superfood boosts: spirulina, bee pollen, maca, mesquite, lucuma, hemp seeds, magnesium powder.

My favourite smoothie garnishes: goji berries, activated pepitas, hemp seeds, bee pollen.

    Hey Jordanna,

I’ve been having the post-workout chocolate thickshake nearly everyday for breakfast, I love it!! I have it with frozen blueberries and kale.

I’m not doing sport beforehand, just going to work so is this ‘too many calories’ or ‘too much of something’ to have just as a regular breakfast? I do have eggs other mornings, for variation.

    Thanks,
    Sinead 🙂

Yum! No, Sinead it’s absolutely fine to have for breakfast without a workout before hand. Do you find it gets you through to lunchtime? With all those good fats in there you shouldn’t feel like a mid morning snack. If you do, I’d stick to some raw veg and hummus.
      Glad you love it!!! x
