Happy Hump Day gorgeous souls! What a wild week it has been and I have to say it’s really nice to have a safe, loving and inspiring space like this one to come to for a bit of solace. I hope you use Inspired Wednesdays as an inspiring refuge too (it’s extra comfy with a pot of chai and one of these babies).

Today’s interview is a real goodie. Megan Gogoll is a Life Coach, Writer + WildHeart Poet! With a background in Psychology and Humanitarian work, Megan is passionate about helping people reach their highest potential. She believes everyone deserves to have their dream life become their reality, and her aim is to show them how.

Her mission is to work with courageous souls who are ready to navigate their true north and reveal their bright shining inner diamond to the world.  She is currently working on an ebook all around anxiety (you can sign up here to keep updated), and openly speaks about her year of sobriety and why poetry is cool again. Such a rockstar!

Tell us a little bit about your website Show Me Your Diamond and how it came to be…

Show Me Your Diamond was a way of sharing my story. I had issues with alcohol, anxiety, and extremely low self worth. I decided I deserved a lot more than I was giving myself. So I made some serious changes, got back in tune with who I really was and turned my life into something I could be passionate and excited about.

I thought if I could help just one person who was going through a similar struggle – whether it be with alcohol, anxiety, or just the knowledge you’re not living a life that lights you up – then being raw and open like that would all be worth it.

And Oh My God it totally was.

I’ve made some really beautiful connections through blogging about my journey to self. Show Me Your Diamond has just grown so organically, yet purposefully, into a full-time coaching business. Now I get to help and witness women making their own brilliant changes in life and its amazing. I love what I do and SMYD is a huge part of my life. Its my baby!!

Now that we’ve heard your inspiring story, what kinds of things inspire you?

Oh man I’m inspired everyday! My clients inspire me. My mentors inspire me. My family and friends inspire me! Anyone who has the courage to step up and say I’m better than what I’ve created for myself, I deserve more.. so inspiring!!

Anyone who can turn their struggle into strength.. inspires the heck out of me!

And mother nature. Sometimes all I need to do is go outside, notice the breeze, hear the leaves rustling in the trees, feel the sun on my face, and inspiration floods me.

You recently just completed a year of sobriety. Congratu-freakin-lations! Can you share some of the insights you gained from your year off the booze?

Ha thank you!! Wow, what a year of growth that turned out to be!
My biggest insight would have to be that that I actually love who I am! I always used alcohol because I thought I wasn’t good enough without it – drinking made me more sociable, funnier, sexier – but that was all bullshit. Once I stripped it all back and did a little (a lot!) of self reflection I finally realised that being my natural self was the very best thing I could be. And I already was all of those things, I didn’t need alcohol! I was a much better person without it.

Do you have any advice for anybody who is contemplating giving up alcohol for a period of time, be it a month, a year or permanently?

I would say ‘go for it’! It is so worth getting to know yourself again without the booze in your life! Use it as time to explore yourself, stretch yourself, and really get in tune with what you want out of your one wild and precious life! Sure, it can be a little confronting at first, particularly in social settings, but venturing out of your comfort zone like that leads to some beautiful insights anyway!
And it is so damn good to never be hungover! Waking up fully fresh and bright-eyed on a Sunday morning is quite possibly the best thing ever! Seriously if you’ve been thinking about it, just do it. It will change your life.

Mindfulness is a huge part of The Inspired Table’s wellness philosophies, in what ways do you practice mindfulness?

Mmmm mindfulness is a huge part of my life too. I practice meditation daily. Its a non-negotiable for me. It clears my mind-chatter, calms me and really sets me up for a day filled with clarity and connection.
But I also try to practice mindfulness in every aspect of my life. Eating consciously, being all in, wherever I am. Of course my mind will wander sometimes; to my to-do list, new projects, what I might have for dinner, but I figure if you always have that intention to be in the present moment, life tends to run a lot more smoothly.

If you could only pass on one piece of advice for optimal health and happiness, what would it be?
Oooh BE YOURSELF!I think we tend to focus so much on being a perfect version of something. Perfect fitness, perfect health, perfect lover and its kind of ridiculous! Just be yourself! Love who you are. Love your body. Love your mind. Love your quirks. Yes be health conscious, but don’t let yourself succumb to the pressure. You’re human. You’re natural. And you’re fucking beautiful.

Can you name three people that inspire you ?

1. My mother. She’s the strongest woman I know. She has always turned adversity into an opportunity.. to be a better person, more giving, more open, more loving. She has shown me the true meaning of unconditional love. She is one incredible lady and I am very blessed to have such an inspiring woman for my mother.

2. Danielle LaPorte. She is so passionate, sensual, strong, and fully in her own power. She’s created an epic life that she loves. And when I hear her spoken word poetry, I get shivers. She’s phenomenal.

3. Malala Yousafzai (the girl who got shot by the Taliban for going to school). Yes, because she is an advocate for education and women, but more importantly because of her courage and her strength. To stand up and say no this is not right and you will not silence me. And in the face of such intimidation! She’s a total game changer this one. And her efforts could not be more inspiring.

I love this quote. I read it every morning. It reminds me not only that dreams are vital, but also that action is entirely necessary to make those dreams come true.. Mmmmm so damn inspiring!!!
