The Inspired Table Chakra Series is coming to a close. In this instalment we find out the foods that balance your third-eye chakra. We’ve explore the root chakra, sacral chakra, solar plexus chakra, heart chakra and throat chakra.

Today we explore the sixth chakra that governs our intuition, psychic abilities and inner perception.

You know that feeling when you completely misread a person or situation? Or perhaps you feel like The Universe isn’t listening? Well, it could be your third eye chakra…

Sanskrit name: Ajna

Colour: Indigo

Location: Situated between the eyebrows.

Meaning: The third eye chakra is led by our intuition, inner perception and where we connect to a mental state. Our ideas, imagination, dreams, focus and values are all born through our sixth chakra. It is our gateway into a high realm of consciousness and where we develop our innate connection to the universe. Individuals with fine tuned psychic abilities are thought to be people with a clear and balanced third-eye chakra.

Health: An imbalanced third eye chakra can result in difficulties embracing a spiritual connection or awareness of your inner and outer realities. An overactive third-eye chakra is connected to people who tend to live in fantasy worlds and are out of touch with reality, whereas an underactive third-eye chakra manifests as rigid thoughts and stubborn belief systems.

Physically the third-eye chakra governs the brain, ears, eyes, nose and neurological system and when imbalanced this chakra can cause headaches, panic, depression, hallucinations, dizziness, hormonal imbalance, insomnia and eyestrain.

Heal: The third eye chakra’s element is light. Sitting out in the sunlight with your third eye facing towards the light for short periods of time can help rejuvenate the third-eye chakra. Yoga poses that assist in healing this chakra are child’s pose, because the forward bend puts pressure on and stimulates the third eye, and eagle pose because it’s a strong balancing pose and requires focus and concentration which helps stimulate the third eye.

Purple foods: grapes, blackberries, blueberries, eggplants, purple kale, purple cabbage and purple sweet potatoes.

Omega 3-rich foods: salmon, sardines, walnuts, flaxseeds and chia seeds all contain high levels of Omega 3’s which are perfect for boosting brain power and balancing the third-eye chakra.
